More Books to Come!
Updated: Jan 13
As a children’s author and mental health therapist, I plan to write many more books explaining tough concepts to children. As adults, we want to protect children and may choose to shelter them from topics that seem too mature. However, mature things happen to children. Very scary or traumatic things happen to children’s families. Children need to share their stories and hear that they are not the only ones who have experienced whatever type of pain they have been through.
In therapeutic sessions with children, I offer an environment where it is understood that any topic is appropriate to talk about. I encourage children to tell me their stories. Some children are confused or saddened by their parent’s divorce. While other children have experienced sexual abuse, incarceration of a parent, or have witnessed a loved one being beaten up by another person they love. Some of these children have been told not to talk about what happened. While other children just do not talk about their experiences because no one else in their lives is talking about them. Every situation is unique. Before entering a session with a child and parent together to talk about a scary life event I give parents a heads up that when I bring up the hard or traumatic event I will try to do so in such a way that almost feels casual, like I am about to talk about ordering pizza. I let the parent know that we need to be prepared to answer any questions their child may have honestly. By providing simple, easy to read books, some parents may find the courage they need to begin these conversations with or without the use of a therapist.
When writing children’s books I draw upon years of experience and countless hours of professional training on these subjects. I am passionate in my mission to give parents tools they can use in their own homes. I have several topic ideas I am ready to dive into. I am happy to share my knowledge to help as many children and families as possible. Books have been a staple in helping parents introduce new or tough conversations. I am so excited to begin this journey!

Wow these are much needed books for today. Go for it!
